Byungse Suh has completed his BS in pharmacy from Chungang University, Seoul, Korea; PhD at the age of 28 from University of Kansas; postdoctoral studies from University of Iowa; and MD from University of Miami. He has completed the residency and fellowship from University of Wisconsin Hospital. He is Professor of Medicine and published more than 110 papers.

John J S Cadwell received his degree in Pharmacology from the University of Miami in 1981. Since that time he served in various sales, marketing and business development capacities until founding FiberCell System in 2000. As president and CEO he has filed and been issued three patents in the field of hollow fiber bioreactors and authored many publications in the field

Mario A Bianchet has completed his PhD from The University of La Plata, Argentine, and performed Postdoctoral studies at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he is now a Assistant Professor of Neurology since 2011. He has published 65 papers in reputed journals. As structural enzymologist and expert in ligand recognition, he has participated in several seminal structural and mechanistic studies of macromolecules and ligand/macromolecule interactions of biomedical interest. He has important contributions to different fields, including bioenergetics: F1-ATPase, xenobiotic-response: NADPH:Quinone oxidoreductases, DNA-repair: Uracyl-Glycosylase/inhibitors, carbohydrate-recognition: animal lectins, and late stage cell-wall biosynthesis: LD-transpeptidases and their complexes with substrates and carbapenems.

My research aims to understand essential relations between macromolecules’ structure and their mechanisms of action in biological processes involved in human diseases. With that goal I am applying diverse techniques and methods including x-ray scattering and diffraction, as well as computer modeling and simulation to elucidate these relations that will have a direct impact on the understanding, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of human diseases

Martin qualified in medicine from Newcastle University in 1982 and has worked as a GP since 1986. He obtained a Masters qualification in public health at Cambridge University in 1997. He has had a longstanding interest in applying evidence-based medicine to prescribing and therapeutics. He has previously worked for the National Prescribing Centre and the Department of Medicines Management at Keele University. From 1999 he has worked as a part-time GP in Conwy, North Wales, and initially worked as Medical Director for Conwy Local Health Board. Following the reorganisation of health services in Wales in 2009 he became Deputy then Acting Medical Director for the Health Board which manages all primary and secondary care NHS services in North Wales. He helped to organise and run the Diploma in Therapeutics at Cardiff University between 2005 and 2010. He chaired the New Medicines Group for Wales from inauguration in 2007 through to 2010. He is a Clinical Adviser on prescribing and evidence-based medicine for the Royal College of GPs, and is member of one of NICE’s technology appraisal committees.

He has had a longstanding interest in applying evidence-based medicine to prescribing and therapeutics.

Prof Samir Kumar-Singh is a certified medical doctor with a doctorate in Pathology and a Master degree in Laboratory Animals. He is a full-time research professor of Molecular Pathology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Antwerp, Belgium and is affiliated to the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Institute, Belgium. He has published a well-cited body of work on molecular pathology of cancer and neurodegeneration involving patient studies and mouse modelling. Professor Kumar-Singh serves on several review and editorial boards and international consortia. Since 2012, his group is engaged in studying the pathomechanism of hospital acquired pneumonia especially ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and has developed several authentic rat and mouse VAP as well as acute and chronic pneumonia models to study disease pathogenesis and for biomarker discovery as well as high-throughput in vitro screens for new antimicrobial targets.

Anna Malm has completed her PhD in 1989 from Medical University in Lublin, Poland. She is the head of Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology in Medical University in Lublin. She works at full professor position. She is a specialist in medical microbiology. She has published more than 200 papers mainly in reputed journals in the field of medical microbiology, including studies on antibacterial/antifungal activity in vitro of the compounds of plant or synthetic origin.

Bing Xie has completed his PhD at the age of 30 years from East China University and postdoctoral studies from the University Hongkong, Department of Ecology Diversity. He is the vice director of Department of Environmental Science & Technology of East China Normal University. He has published more than 100 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an editorial board member of international journal.

The research program focuses on the use of ecological and engineered biological systems for environmental pollution control, bioremediation, and the treatment of wastewater from industrial.

John F. Kokai-Kun, PhD is Vice President of Non-clinical Affairs for Synthetic Biologics, Inc. (Rockville, MD). He received his BS in Biochemistry from Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA and his PhD in Microbiology from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine. He served as a post-doctoral researcher at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Kokai-Kun has 20 years of experience in the drug development industry and has held positions with several biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies where his research and development efforts have focused primarily on anti-bacterial drugs and vaccines. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the Uniformed Services University and retired from the United States Army.

Deb Mathews received her doctorate of Pharmacy degree from Florida A&M University and has over 25 years of clinical and pharmaceutical executive experience. She spent her early years in clinical practice as research pharmacist in Oncology with the University of Miami Hospital and Head of Pharmacy Services / Adherence Manager for the HIV/AIDS program with Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. She has worked in several leadership positions with the pharmaceutical industry focused on Medical Affairs, scientific insights, publications and data dissemination. She currently serves as Vice-President Medical Affairs for Synthetic Biologics, Inc. She is interested in mechanistic methodologies for personalized medicine in antimicrobial resistance and biomarker identification linked to clinical outcomes

Tadashi Shimamoto has completed his PhD at the age of 28 years from Okayama University, Japan and postdoctoral studies from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He is a professor and a vice dean of Graduate School of Biosphere Science, Hiroshima University. He has published more than 60 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an editorial board member of Microbiology and Immunology.

Infectious Diseases and Microbiology

Professor Surbhi Malhotra-Kumar is a clinical and molecular microbiologist, actively involved in the development of high-throughput and POC diagnostic assays for hospital and community pathogens. Using state-of-the-art molecular techniques, she is studying the impact of antibiotic use at the individual level and the role of virulence factors in biofilm formation as well as utilising metagenomics to study bacterial pathogenetic mechanisms and antibiotic resistance.
